First of all..nothing should be done apart from prayer and seeking the will of God for your life and ministry. Second, if I felt a leading from the spirit I would then visit the church. Thankfully we are in a different time when it is more accepted for a minister to cross denominational lines.
You cannot effectively love and minister to others when you are obsessed with protecting
and preserving yourself.

I would say that it does not really matter to me. I do not think we have the right to tell you whether you should or should not. However, if you have to ask here about whether or not you should take it, then my personal opinion would be maybe not. You need to do your own soulsearching to see if you want to submit to the leadership of the organization and serve as a pastor there. Most importantly, you should hear from God if this is the direction you should go. Our opinions, plans, and ideas are a moot point if this is not the will of God for your life. Only you know these answers and only you can decide. I pray that you make the decision that is right for you and this local body of believers. May the Lord's will be done and you be fruitful in whatever decision you make.

ditto the above posts. and for me, it is a matter of calling. and should have nothing to do with my opinion, whether personal or professional. being a pastor should be a calling from God, not a vocational choice.

I am asking to see what you think (opinion only), NOT to make a decision on ANYTHING,.(notice I left some sarcasm in certain of teh polls..) I would never make a decision based on what some in a forum think, especially revovling pastoring......

Thanks for the input... WOW I am shocked that anyone would think I would make a decision like this based on a poll

well ok then...

Never asked you to..

However, if you have to ask here about whether or not you should take it, then my personal opinion would be maybe not.

Well first you did not care. Now you are assumming I am asking you what I should do... You missed the point I was just curious what your OPINION would be period! Your personal opinion is based on me asking what your opinion is.....whatever

You need to do your own soulsearching to see if you want to submit to the leadership of the organization and serve as a pastor there. Most importantly, you should hear from God if this is the direction you should go.

Of course that is what I would do, I would never ask anyone for this kinda of answer. Boy you missed teh point here.

Our opinions, plans, and ideas are a moot point if this is not the will of God for your life.

this is true
Only you know these answers and only you can decide. I pray that you make the decision that is right for you and this local body of believers. May the Lord's will be done and you be fruitful in whatever decision you make

That is true and thank you

I am curious to why you would consider pastoring a CoGoP when you differ with the views of the CoGoP?
There never was a horse that couldn't be rode and there never was a cowboy that couldn't be throwed.

My opinion of the church to offer this to you is several fold:
1. they do not know your teachings/beliefs.
2. or they do know what you believe/teach, and it follows their local church beliefs (though unfortunately is not what is probably held at the COGOP organization level)
3. some combination of a and b.

further, isn't it the state/regional overseer that does the offering? it would seem that a local COGOP church is overstepping it's authority in making any offers.

If it is the overseer making the offer, then same paradigm, though shifted, applies.
Thanks, Brent "RamboPreacher" Hoefling

That is true, Paul.

However, in this case, I don't see that as a possibility based on my brother's beliefs and his expressions of those on the internet. I do believe that his pastoring a COGOP is putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop.

Or, perhaps COGOP would rather not have this particular congregation any longer and this is a back door approach to the left foot of fellowship.

 :)

Wow. That seems really paranoid to me.
COGOP has become a pretty big tent group of late. We have WOF people, old-school pentecostals, hyper-holiness, emergent contemporaries, and a variety of other things. I don't think Kevin has any ulterior motive, myself.

I voted you should turn it down. Not because you wouldn't love the people. Not because the people wouldn't love you. But because there are (IMO) to many conflicts of interests here, short of a divine direction to the contrary, to make this seem like a practical workable decision in the best interests of all involved -- especially considering the disparity between official TCOG doctrine and practice versus COGOP doctrine and practice.

Maybe you speak in jest...However, I don't see how the COGOP would not want a specific congregation...congregations are pretty autonimous these days...
