American Idol

Postby Paully_44 » January 18th, 2005, 6:34 pm

Anyone else looking forward to the train wreck of those who think they can sing when they audition for American Idol?

Better than the World Series. A lot better, actually.

That was horribly great last night. That girl towards the end was crazy.

Did ya love it?

I was totally thrilled that the first one to hear "Welcome to Hollywood!" was a youth pastor and they actually liked him because his genuine niceness came across! (I sure hope he is the real deal, lives out his faith and makes the name of the Lord famous!)

This week, they accepted a worship leader. Paula's advice was that he really needed to decide what he wanted out of life. Gene Simmons, of KISS, liked his singing, but felt his ministry and wanting to be a pop star conflicted. It was pretty interesting.

Can you DIG it??

Postby Pastor Gary » January 28th, 2005, 11:50 am

Wacky American Idol wanna-be Leroy Wells ("Can you DIG it??") watched his pretaped audition from jail, after being arrested Jan. 5 on charges of assault and firing a weapon. Jail records show he’s also awaiting trial on drug charges and has pleaded guilty to marijuana possession in 2004 and disorderly conduct in June 2003.

He won't be sandblasting any shrimp boats down in Bayou LaBatre for a while.

The big cut

Postby Pastor Gary » February 16th, 2005, 10:35 am

Watched the big cut last night where they chopped 2 rooms full of contestants. A few of my favorites (so far) got the axe.

I loved the odd crooner dude's voice (guy with the Archie & Jughead hat) and there was a large gal with a killer voice and great personality (owns a Karaoke place?) who should have passed through over some of the screamers.

Another cut tonight crushes the young dreams of some more wanna-be stars -- I will watch, of course; it's like a trainwreck you feel compelled to watch.

I am pulling for the music teacher. I like the smoothness in his voice.

Missed the trainwreck last night though, was out getting some new CD's.

The final 24 competitors

Postby Pastor Gary » February 17th, 2005, 9:23 am

Read the bios. Notice how many mention "God" or "church." How do we get to the producers and convince them that one night of competition should be devoted to inspirational music… not necessarily gospel, but music of faith, encouragement, etc.

If they did so, most would sing something from church, and I believe the ratings would be huge.

Country

She should be on Nashville Star or whatever that show is... too country for a pop singer. Pretty? Sure. But the dumb blonde act is -- IMHO -- a Jessica Simpson act. She went to college and has sung publically for years, so she is not as clueless as she plays it for the cameras.

I am pretty big on ANWAR! (His fans already have dubbed themselves ANWARRIORS.) He is classy, polite, has a distinctive voice and look, and seems genuine. I am also pulling for the pudggy country boy from Ohio, Scott. Man, what a great voice. I am much less impressed with the females this year. I predict a male winner.

She rocked the house with a "Heart" song tonight. No country here!

Boy, you got that right. Not only did she finally get rid of the twang, but she did Heart justice and she even had the 80's big hair!!!
