Are we alone? *x-files music*

Postby MacUser » September 1st, 2004, 11:58 am

See this article.

Mysterious signals from 1000 light years away
http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996341

“It’s the most interesting signal from SETI@home,” says Dan Werthimer, a radio astronomer at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) and the chief scientist for SETI@home. “We’re not jumping up and down, but we are continuing to observe it.”

Would this effect anyone's Faith if Aliens exist? Curious.

My faith wouldn't be affected. The bible doesn't support nor rule out life on other planets.

I've never felt that Earth was the only thing God did anything with.
There never was a horse that couldn't be rode and there never was a cowboy that couldn't be throwed.

"And if there is life on other planets,
and I'm sure than He must know,
then He's been there once already,
and has died to save theri souls."

"Unidentified Flying Object" - Larry Norman, 1972.

I think that sums it up...
Why is it that bad decisions seem to make to most interesting testimonies?

Nope! Wouldn't effect me attall!! If there's "storms" raging on other planets then there must also be scared aliens on those planets praying to God (just like I do here on earth!), so we would already have something in common! :D

BTW: I can't get the web article to come up! Is it just me??

I love Larry Norman's music. When I was in HS, his music was some of the first Christian music I really got into.

And I totally share his sentiments on life on other planets.

One of my favorite lines from the movie Contact, "I guess I'd say if it is just us... seems like an awful waste of space. "

oops

I did not read the question all the way through in the poll, I thought it said do you believe that aliens may exist? I answered hmmm, maybe and I am the one who voted that way

It would not affect my faith in anyway, I tend to believe that the universe is so big there must be life somewhere else out there.

If there were sucha thing .. I don't thik m,y faith would be shaken. My understaning of some things and specific aspects of my faith might be ... but overall faith would remain intact.

However, I don't believe aliens exist at all.

This reminds me of a sermon preached in an assembly in like 1916 on Demonology ... which spoke of "aliens" as angels inhabiting other planets (the heavens). IT's a very interesting sermon with very interesting views.
Any of you ever seen it ???

For those who hold to "lucifers' flood" and the pre-adamite world on earth, the two ideas would blend quite nicely.

Um...Plot holes?

We watched this again last Friday.

It s a very religious movie.

The aliens is just a vehicle for the story about Mel's characters faith or lack thereof.

Poimen,
I wish I was as sure as you are.. but I do believe that life could exist.. but not necessarly in the Hollywood fashion. Just stop and look outside our bubble at how BIG God is. Our planet is like a grain of sand on the edge of the ocean. He is Lord over all time and space and I don't want to limit Him with my little mind.

Download this FREE opensource application and take a tour of the 'known' universe. It is supposedly a correct virtual model based on Nasa models/ Hubble photos and it will blow your mind and show you how small we really are. It can literally back out of our known universe and 'see others' around based on real time models. Almost like the eyes of God, amazing.

Here's a question to ponder.

If there is INTELLIGENT life on other planets, did Jesus go to those other planets as he did on Earth? Was he born of a virgin on those other planets? Did he die on each of those planets for the sins of the beings on those planets?

What do you guys think?

Understood. Maybe "plot holes" was the wrong choice of words.
I just had a hard time with things like"
*Aliens don't like water theory,
*Trapping an alien in the pantry.. with the way they can jump, I just figured they could have busted their way thru a wooden pantry door.

You might try C.S. Lewis' sci-fi trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, That Hideous Strength). It takes on that question. In a way, so does the Narnia series.
For the truth that lies at the heart of theology is not something there to be discovered, but something, or rather someone, to whom we must surrender. The mystery of faith is not ultimately something that invites our questioning, but something that questions us.
