What are you doing tonight? Why not...

Even if just at home with your believing family. It's Passover as of Sundown. Let's break bread. ;-)

After all, this is the historic bible way and time believers celebrate the passion of Christ.

I don't know why

Postby scooter » March 29th, 2010, 8:04 am

I don't know why but I find myself anti-tradition in many respects.

No. I won't be.

I was badgered by a senior citizen from an orthodox background about why I didn't say anything about Palms, Sunday.

I don't like preaching topical seasonal sermons though many time they line up in some respect.

What's wrong with me?

I went to a catholic funeral mass last week it was all I could do to watch and listen to the mindless regimented blah, blah, blah.

Here a family has lost their dad, and all they get is read prayers turn page emotionless "ministry".

Traditions like that I can't get along with.

PS I won't be smearing ashes on my head Weds. either. 8)

Fella's,

I'm not talking about Judaizing our practice, or going beyond what Christ gave us.
Neither am I talking about Catholic accretions and additions to the faith.

I'm talking about doing just what Jesus instituted for us to do, and something we all recognize as a NT ordinance. Communion. This is the time, biblically, it is supposed to be observed (and if folks want to do it more at other times then by all means go ahead).

The reason we (most) don't or haven't in the past?
Catholic accretions and additions.

But as Paul said concerning this ordinance ... the same night (Passover) in which the Lord was betrayed, He took bread.

We're supposed to baptize converts on their confession of faith, or soon thereafter (sooner not later). We often fail to do that, but we're supposed to. Likewise we're supposed to have communion on Passover. We often fail to do that, but we're supposed to.

Personally, I'm looking forward to having communion with my wife this evening (and also telling the story of Jesus' death for us to the family).
I thought I would encourage others to do the same. :)

We observed Palm Sunday and Communion yesterday. It's all good. My pastor observes it much more than I did as a pastor. I usually only held it around the new year and easter. I think we do it about every quarter here at Rossville. But the pastor will preach a NT message about it before we do it so that folks understand the significance.

I will not be pertaking of the passover sader and or communion, but I agree we should at lest stop enough to recall what happen on the last supper. Do this in remembrance of me.

So technically Jesus was dead and buried already considering Passover was yesterday, right?

I had an opportunity to share the gospel with a coworker of mine yesterday. It's strange because he was reared in church but didn't know the facts surrounding the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. His daughter had a cd that stirred his interest so he came into my office and asked me if I would tell him. I found it amazing. He's not quite 30 yrs old, believes in evolution, is a devout Liberal, and almost atheist. I should've had an altar call I know or at least passed the plate.
I have piped unto you, and ye have not danced!

Actually He would have been crucified today at about 9 am, and would have died at about 3 pm this afternoon, and then buried around sundown.

Jewish days start at Sundown (twilight), so that an evening/night and a morning/day constitute a whole day.

I Cor 11:26 " For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till he comes."

I do it often......both in church and in my home with my family. Neither the Catholics nor the Judizers have ruined it for me. How could they ? they have absolutely nothing to do with my relationship with Christ. And I like to proclaim him in this manner often.

Response: Of course no one has ruined my relationship to Christ and I enjoy communion and reflecting on Christ's sacrifice and the parallels in the passover.

However I am affected by people who are supposed to be a part of greater body of Christ who trivilize or overemphasize the sacraments. I think Paul got put out a few times by people who had no idea what they were doing when it came to remembrance and practice.

My actual communion with Christ and the fellowship with His family is all I truly need, everything else is symbolism and secondary to me, you may feel different.

Last night I found myself breaking the actual bread, the word of God, and enjoying the fellowship that his suffering brought into existence, His brethren, in reality rather than in symbolism.

Scooter...possibly because I have had the priviledge of taking communion with many first time believers from Hindu, Buddhist and Islamic backgrounds. I have seen the beauty of this sacrament. It holds something very precious and dear to these converts. In India our pastors in each region come together once a month for two days of prayer and fasting. They break the fast with communion. The bond between these men is incrediable. Possibly by remembering symbolically, often, what Christ did for them might enable them to endure the persecution they face daily.

I would have to join Poinmen here. I think the church has lost sight of two very important sacraments in Baptism and Communion. IMHO
