Tim Tebow

Postby Rascal » December 7th, 2009, 4:31 pm

The SEC chanpionship game on Saturday brought somewhat of a suprise when Alabama beat Flordia. Many people were very happy about the result and there were plenty of gator haters. I personally am a Vol fan, but I must give credit where credit is due. Tim Tebow is a great Christian boy and is very vocal and forward with his witness for Christ. He usually has a scripture painted just below his eyes. He has played 4 great years with the gators and has been a great witness. He is a Heisman trophy winner. If kids today want a sports figure to pattern their life after, Tebow is the one. I don't recall any dog fights he has been in, or held up any quick markets....... At the end of the game, he did cry and many sports announcers have made fun of this. They just don't know that real men do cry........obviously, they have not been there. Good luck to Tim Tebow and may God bless him wherever he goes.

Agreed. And though I too have (and will) give him a hard time about crying (it's too easy not to) I do it for humorous good natured teasing, more at FL fans than Tebow himself.

Shoot, I cry lot's myself (especially in prayer or at church). And, when my high school team lost the state championship game lots of us guys cried then too. I get it.

Tebow is (IMO) a great role model, and I hated to see him suffer this loss. Just not enough to hold back a big ROLL TIDE! :D

Tebow

I am a Bama fan, and was happy for the outcome of the Alabama-Florida game. No gator hater here, just a partisan fan.

As for Tebow himself, I have nothing but respect and predict a great career for him.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

I two feel the same way about and for him. Even said that was a shame for either of the two to have to lose. But my heart is with Alabama. Not sure that his career will be with football as he may well work in the ministry. Wish him well.
God Bless

The following is reprinted from another board as stated by a Bama fan. Things such as this are not generally reported in the liberal media.

Bama fan wrote:My wife's aunt is a big gator fan. She's not a big booster, not a big donor, just a fan. She found out that she is in the final stages of pancreatic cancer. She was given 3 months to live. Her son called the Fl. athletic department and shared the situation with the secretary. He thought they might send a letter, or a pre-printed card. Friday before the game. She got a phone call from (Tim) Tebow, and he talked and prayed with her for 30 mins. It was hard to root against him after that. It made my Aunts day, year, maybe life. The kid is a class act. I hope he makes it far at the next level.

sorry, theres a time and place for tears and crying like that after a loss? come on, not what I would want from my team leader. they would have lost to Texas anyway in the NC game.

As for him being a real man, he may be a good man and good college football player. I am really curious as to how he'll transition to the next level. Too many "good" college QB's go on to a long career as clipboard holders in the NFL. I hope he does well...

It'd be reaaalllllyyyyy too easy for me to jump on him. I am not a fan of his, never have been since he committed to UF. I think he's branded, scripted and turned into a commodity. I think he's young, exploited to a great degree, and somewhat childish. I think he's probably a sincere guy who is criticized because he's very good at what he does where he is, and because he is not patently "down with" a lot of things that a lot of young stars do. I figure he probably has the same temptations and failures that many people do, and I feel bad that he's a victim of success in that way, and hope that he is and remains steadfast in what must be an unimaginable onslaught of opportunities for wrongdoing that would gratify 99.9% of men (well, 89.9% if you believe the sociologists -- or, 9.9% if you believe the Tebow-is-gay epithets).

But, without regard to all of the above, this is football. Cry? Sure. I would've assumed that it would have a "been there, done that" or at least a sort of business feel to him, especially in light of his likely financially secure future (not as a QB, mind you --- he will not play QB in the NFL) around the corner. But, I don't buy into this whole "it's okay for men to cry" business. To paraphrase Tom Hanks' character in "A League of Their Own", "There's no crying in football." Cover your head with a towel like real men do when they squall about losing an important game. That scene of him on the bench is on the wallpaper of Alabama and FSU fans from the Keys to the Shoals. (Not mine, mind you --- I still have "The Max Block" scene from the UT game on mine, and that replaced the Tuberville-face-in-his-hands-on-the-jumbotron-at-Bryant-Denny from the 2008 Iron Bowl.) And, the crying during Tracy Wolfson's interview --- I've thought and thought on it, and I just wonder if this kid is really emotionally mature. He better get that way, quick, if he's going to the NFL. There's a picture on the internet of tailgaters after the game holding a sign saying "December 12:5 'Tebow wept.'" Tasteless? Oh, sure. But, boy he sure has worked awful hard to invite that sort of thing, and I think he did it mostly unwittingly.

I think he has a rude awakening ahead. Not everyone loves him, and he seems to me to need a lot of validation. He's not an NFL quality QB, and he's going to have to accept that if he plays pro ball, he'll have to do it as a TE or LB or maybe a small DE. That sort of thing has ruined lesser people, I'd suppose. I hope he's greater than the changes to come. I certainly believe he wants to be because I think this guy is genuine as he can be. The best thing that can happen to Tim Tebow, IMO, is for everyone outside of Florida to sort of forget about him for a while, let him develop into whatever role he may eventually have in the NFL. Stop commoditizing him. UF fans? Well, shoot, he's their guy. No one should criticize them for loving, fawning over him, etc. He's a record holder in the NCAA and his accomplishments on the field cannot be undone, only bested, and it'll take a whale of a talent to do that.

loved every second sat. it was a long time coming!!!!! i would say this, urban is one of the largest jerks in college football. tebow played for him and they seem to have a great relationship. in the future tebow should be more careful who he hooks his wagon to. urban is a cocky, overrated coach, and i am looking forward to next year. payback in college football is sweet!!!!, and i hope the every team in the sec on the gators schedule makes urban CRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it is our place to say whether or not a person should cry after losing a game. It's a free country and if he feels the emotion to cry, then let him cry. I certainly don't think it makes him less of a man or less of a football player. We all get over emotional from time to time and that is what happened to Tebow. Why does anyone even care if he cries or not. Just let the boy play some football.

just my 2 cents

In my opinion if you can't understand how a man could cry after such a loss then you don't have much of a competitive spirit or put alot of passion into what you do.

I would consider myself very passionate when I played sports and competitive. I've broke a couple bones, torn up my knee, dislocated my shoulder and various other injuries and not once cried. (I think I cried when I was in 5th grade and got hit in the face with a baseball.)

Just because a person cries doesnt make him a man and just because he doesnt make him less- competive. All I'm saying is I would just rather not have the leader of my team breaking down on camera after a loss... that's all.

dawgs, your village called, their idiot is missing. I don't care if your a gator hater or not. You jumped this thread so you could rant about how much you disliked Urban Meyers. When you say that Urban Meyers is overrated, then by the same yardstick you will have to say that Mark Richt, the Head Coach at Georiga, is also over rated. When a side by side comparison is done their records are very similar.

Urban Meyers
8 years as a Head Coach
Total win/loss record: 83 - 17
In conference record: 41 - 13
Winning %: .830 (Rated 2nd nationally amoung all active coaches.)

Mark Richt
8 years as a Head Coach
Total win/loss record: 82 - 22
In conference record: 48 - 19
Winning %: .788 (Rank 4th nationally amoung all active coaches.)

Are you prepared to say that Mark Richt is "overrated?" I don't believe that you are. The truth is these are two fine coaches, one that you like and one that you don't.

We forget very easy!
When we put forth our whole heart into something and come up short.
And everyone counting on us to make it happen [ National Champs]

I think It shows his Heart. Do we forget his comments after the Old Miss lost???

It's not that he's a great football player, sure he has allot of the records.
But it's his Heart that shows through.

I don't think Tebow is bad because he cried. He lost against Ole Miss last year and he didn't cry then, at least not publicly. I just wish he'd covered his head with a towel. Cry like a baby, cover it up like a warrior.

Terrell Owens cried about Tony Romo a few years ago. ESPN made fun of him incessantly.

Urban Meyer cried --- and I mean cried --- after UF lost to LSU in 2005, his first year (pre-Tebow) --- and he did it in the postgame presser. The whole team followed his lead ...... in the locker room, where it belonged.

i would say that mark richt did that in the toughest conference in college football and urban has not except with tebow. richt earned every win. over half of urbans was not in the sec. what i am saying is that tebow spent four years with a known jerk as head coach. it is known that urban is cocky and treats many he works with and the media badly. so the point of my post is that tebow has connected himself with someone that took advantage of him, packeged him and sold him. urban will be overrated untill he wins a championship without tebow, parttime or fulltime. i would also say that if richt dont win a national championship soon hes out because thats what matters in football.
