Feet Washing

Postby dalebert » September 22nd, 2009, 2:32 am

It has been a long time since I was involved in a “Feet Washing” service, but I had the opportunity to do so last Sunday night. Does anyone on here still do those or have you gotten away from them? This was a COGOP church I attended that had this service….by the way , we have communion too.

we did one at a mens retreat a few years back. The water was disgusting.
I chose to watch.

Our church does - but not quite as frequently as we used to.
If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

Yes we still do feet washing and communion services. Usually around business meetings.

We do occasionally.

I haven't washed anyone's feet --- except my daughter's :lol: --- in 17 years or so, I'd say. I know it's probably going to be weird to some, but I always appreciated that part of the service. Looking back, it was cheesy in the way it was done, and all, but I just think it is a really wonderful gesture and reminder to be humble and serve one another.

I wash my feet everyday.

I agree. It is also great opportunity to take time to pray for each other individually. Sometimes I get too busy and just "run down the list" when I pray but washing someone's feet reminds me of the reality of their needs and gives me the time to speak to the Lord on their behalf.

Yes, we still do feetwashing as a rite, or act/reminer of humility and servanthood.

We don't do it in public worship services so much now... logistics are difficult where we meet, and we don't do it every time we have Communion.

It is more typically done in a leadership setting where the serious, core membership are together.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

Why ? I am always curious as to why the pentecostal and charismatic churches ( becoming more of a norm ) do not practice the two ordinances given to the church on a regular basis. Baptism and Communion

I wonder if that might have something to do the condition of the western church?
