Flying?

If none of those categories fit you exactly, post a variation.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

I've never flown and the thought used to terrify me. As I've grown older, I think I've lost some of the terror and would fly if forced, but I am still stomach sick thinking of having to.

I've only flown with my dad (Mr. Ed) as the pilot. And I've never been on a huge plane--just small ones.

I used to fly frequently, however now my doctors advice against it. I have to many health problems that could become issues.

Average at least one rewards flight a year. With international trips the mile add up quickly. I average around 4-5 international trip a year plus several flights within the U.S.

Uncle Sam introduced me to flying and I love it. Only way to get to Hawaii from here as far as I'm concern. Don't want any long boat rides.

Bill Talley and John Wilkins both few me over Cleveland, Tn. It looks different at 1200 feet up, did alright untill John did a hard left turn and I was higher up then he. John thought that it was funny, but did apololized. :D Now as look back it was funny and I treasure those moments.

I guess Paul could tell some stories both good and bad. Maybe on another thread. PG sorry to have kinda high jacked this one some what.
God Bless

never been in a plane. I have had a fear for a long time but I will fly the more I travel. I plan to fly this year for the first time!!!!

But I did watch a special last night about the worse plane crashes. The one in 1986 (i think) was crazy!!! They had a whole piece of the roof just rip off the plane. So many of those people were flying with no roof and everything flying out of the plane. Only one died and she was the flight attendant. She was socked out the plan. What was interesting is the reason this happened was the bolts that held the top and bottom together were counter sunk which after time made razor like cuts in the plane. Inches became feet etc.

Surprised

Postby Pastor Gary » June 6th, 2009, 10:40 am

I am surprised by these results... I had no idea there were so many people who do not fly, are afraid of flying or have seldom flown. I am learning.

(Maybe because I live on an island and it's hard to get ANYWHERE without flying, I just assume everyone flies.)

I have been blessed to be able to travel to many parts of the U.S. and the Pacific Basin... Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam (courtesy of Uncle Sam  ), Korea... I don't enjoy the endless lines, searches, long waits, delays, uncomfortable coach seats, pesky (or rude) fellow travelers, getting stranded for extended hours in airports, and all the hassles, but I love experiencing other cultures, meeting people, seeing "foreign" sites, trying new foods... if only that Star Trek transporter could be perfected.

World-traveler Paul will probably agree with me that there is NO COMPARISON between domestic and international flights. Flying from point to point in the U.S. is pretty much a Greyhound with wings; international flights have way more leg/seat room, better food, better amenities, first-class service in coach, and are way better. I am told that Singapore Air 1st Class is the ultimate in flying, but I doubt if I will ever know firsthand, since it is REALLY expensive. China Air was nice. Korean Air was REALLY nice.

Anything is better than those web seat in the C130 flying over the pacific for what seem like forever. Making those stops at midway, wake then okanawa. Or crunched down in the observers seat in the plastic nose of a P2 patrol plane.

PG is right international travel is much better. Once you get to know the airports travel becomes much easier. You know what to expect and where the gates are or what terminals you need to transfer to.

The list is long, but when I first started to travel I always went for the cheapest ticket out of necessity. I have learned that the extra couple hundred dollars for the ticket by using the same airlines is well spent money. On American Airline as a Exec Platimun I get double miles, free upgrades when available or I can use point I earn to upgrade. Flagship or Clipper lounge, showers, free breakfast or dinner, business center. This year my son Joel and I have made three international trips on award miles alone.

International carriers I have traveled on

Olympia Air
Korean Air
Luftansa Air
Philippine Air
Asiaina Air
Airoflot ( Russian)
KLM
Japan Airlines
Cebu Pacific
Air India
India Air
China Air
British Airway
American Airlines ( International)
Northwest ( Internationall)
TansAir
Defunct America West to Hawaii
Cathy Pacific
Eva Air
Pakistan Air (not as bad as everyone told me it would be)
Virgin Nigeria
Decon Air
Spirit of Asia
Royal Emeriate Airline

Might be a few more memory slips me. Most all US Carriers at one time or another. And many national carriers flying from one place to another in a forgien country.

With the new merger of NorthWest and Delta their partner Air France and KLM. I will probably used them more often. They have opened more routes to Africa and the Middle east area.

I took my first flight as a kid, solo from Chicago to Texas, I've flown many times since then. Hubby fly's frequently for business, so the frequent flier miles add up, love the benefits of that, 1st class being one! I have to admit, once you fly first class, you really hate having to go coach again! ;)

My son was on a plane when he was just 8 weeks old, Dallas to Houston....that trip must have set the pace for him, he's flown so much I think he has me beat. He even flew to Bulgaria when he was just 13. He also would go up in a friends personal planes, one being a bi-plane, he taught him a lot. My son loves to fly!

Honestly air travel is safer than driving down the road, it's just more hassle these days...but does make getting to your destination faster, usually! ;)

I have flown about 15-20 times. Th roughest time I had was flying to Huntington, W.va. That airport is on the top of a mountain. It was winter. It was a small plane. The pilot said if the runway was too slippery he would gun the engines and take off again rather than falling over the side of the mountain. We landed safely.
To God be the Glory.

...and with no helmet. Go figure.

My mom has said the same thing as you.

With me, I don't know if it is a height thing, a claustrophobia thing, or a control thing. I just know that the very first time I walked into an airport to PICK SOMEONE UP that had flown in that I got light-headed and nauseated and almost felt hysteria.

I am not like THAT anymore, but I would have to be forced if I was to fly.
