Influenza, H1N1, A, B or otherwise!

Postby jinjer » April 29th, 2009, 3:53 pm

I just want to take a moment and say that I hope my comments in previous threads don't make it seems that I am unconcerned about the influenza viruses. Influenza is serious for some people, namely the young and older populations, and others with chronic diseases such as asthma etc. Many die each year from influenza and pneumonia and their complications. I hope everyone will take the proper precautions to keep the spread of all viral and other contagious diseases from spreading. Because we are so global, all illnesses that we face will be pandemics. Pandemic means that an infectious disease has spread in a larger region such as a continent or worldwide.

All that being said, I still think a panic is being created where it should not be. We don't need to hear about it every waking moment.

Good thoughts Jinjer.

Weird how most (if not all) major media outlets in the US have not reported on the fact you mentioned earlier that the WHO has confirmed only 7 deaths in Mexico.

I even say this as a member of the media myself...I think this is tantamount to the anthrax coverage a few years ago where the media whipped everyone into a horrible frenzy. Same with Natalee Holloway, Anna Nicole Smith, et al. The media can report on whatever it wants to and make a big story out of something as small as Michael Jackson getting his mail out of his mailbox without a glove on his hand.

Now I am not saying the "swine flu" story is thin air. What has been confirmed is there is an illness that so far is directly accountable for only seven deaths. Other influenza strains have wrought far worse damage!

I personally wonder if this so-called "Swine Flu" isn't a biological attack from a hostile nation that infected someone as a carrier and had them travel overseas to facilitate its spread.

I also wonder if it is even influenza at all.

Jinjer, you've inspired a new term: Panicdemic. That's what this is.

I wondered the same thing! I'd hate to think it is, but also look at all the salmanella (sp?) scares we've had over the last 2 years.

As a Christian, I am concerned with the widespread fear that seems to sweep through all too easily these days.

The swine flu seems to be a good example, our financial situation (I know it's bad, but the fear about it seems to be making things worse), and all around there seems to be media blitzes that put out a scare well beyond the situation.

one other example that really gets to me is the push this drug company is doing for Gardasil (the "one less" commercials) they throw around the C word (cancer) and make this out to be a vaccination for cancer, when from what I have seen about it, it seems to be WAY under tested, there are serious side effects (32 deaths already) for a vaccine that protects against only 4 strains of an STD that in some cases has been linked to cervical cancer. and at that it's protection lasts for an undetermined length of time. They are recommending this for 9 year old girls, and trying to mandate it for them to attend school.

My wife and I were discussing this very topic this morning.

In America we have had one death from a mexian national child who came to america to have treatment...and the child had a litany of other medical issues at the time.

Thousands die here in America every year from influenza...why this particular strain is a news story is beyond me.

What about those who get TB?
We still have plenty of people here in America who get that...
How come that isn't being talked about? It is much more deadly than the flu.

About one third of Americans get the flu every year...it ain't news.
I wonder if this is being promoted as to take away our focus from some other subject...hummm...I am getting out my tinfoil hat
I want to die like Grandpa, quietly and in his sleep; not like the passengers in his car, they were all panicking and screaming.

As an example, below is the CDC report as of week 7, Feb. 2008 for the 2007-2008 flu season. There were 22 pediatric deaths in this nation. Did you hear any of this last year on then news.

In regard to Pastor Bill's comments about Guardisil. First, let me say that I was on a team that perform research and trials on Guardisil as will as other treatments for HPV and genital warts. The trial/research was more than 12 years ago for me, and had been in progress before I got there. I still have some original documents that we used as patient education for different treatment regimens we were testing. So, I personally do not consider it way under tested. The only other thing I will comment on is the 4 strains, of those 4, 2 of them cause nearly 70% of all cervical cancers, and 2 cause 95% of genital warts. Yes it is a STD, and one can avoid that exposure by not having sex until married. However, if your husband/wife had a history prior to salvation and/or your marriage, they can transmit it to you. I do not believe in mandating it, I believe parents should make those choices for their children, but with good educated information.

This is only my opinion and not an endorsement or medical advice.
