Well I had a awesome conversation with a elderly Black man the other day. I was going to measure a church to do some contracting work there and I met the pastors Brother (who was in his late 70's I would say) and picked him up and we went to the church.
We had a wonderful conversation talking about the Lord all the way there and all the way back. We past another church in his denomination and I asked was that one that they visit as well because he was telling me that his denomination visits the different churches in the area every sunday, so they are only in their church one sunday a month. Well we passed that church and he said reluctantly that No this was the uhh uhhh white church.

That sprouted a interesting conversation in which Obama came up. He told me that he may not agree with him on everything but how good it was to see someone that was a black man to be president and how he wished his parents could have seen this day. He let me know he was always taught by his parents that every one was the same and we all bleed red. His first job was in a pickle factory and there was only three black men that worked there. His first day there he was very thirsty and saw a water fountain and it was rusted and disgusting, he said I cant drink from that nasty thing, so he saw another fountain and figured that was a new one and this fountain must have been broken. So he drank from the fountain and when he looked up a white man was staring at him like he wanted to kill him. He went to his friend the only black guy on his shift and said what is wrong with this guy he looks as if he wants to kill me and all I did was get a drink. His friend told him you did not drink from the other fountain did you? HE then got the picture.

If you could have listened to this guy talk and the hurt he had, but never showed any anger at all. He just felt so good that he saw such days then Now a black person is president and when he was young they could not even drink from the same fountain...

Interesting, that is what I was talking about it being a good thing for America, Not that Obama is president but the fact we have moved past horrible times of history.

I am happy for the old gentleman. But I would bet the farm his momma and daddy would turn over it their graves if they need a black man had to sell his soul to get elected.

I grew up in the Civil rights era.....worked in it....

Dr. King would have had a fit to think that any black person would agree with abortion. He was trying to save families ....not kill them.

So the old man drank the cool aide of "we got one of ours (which really isn't) in the White House.....too bad.

I am not against blacks being in office. If that had been J.C. Watts or even Condonlisa I would have voted for them and gone to the inauguration......which would have cost much less....

While I agree with you about some of the outward changes, there is still a real issue out there. We will reap it.

I remember vividly a cogop ( I'll not mention where). Who had a congregation of blacks and whites. A new pastor came in and during one of the communion and feet washing service refused to allow blacks and whites to wash each others feet. His comment " It just ain't right."

This was not uncommon. While pastoring in Texas I had an older member tell me when they first had a feet wasing service, how amazed he was that there wasn't a " ----- sent in the whole church building."

The hurt in the families of the first story caused them to seperate and start a "Black Church" in that city. Today one, who is a dear friend still tells of how much they hated the song "The great spekled bird" beacuse they were told and made to feel that they were the speckles.

I had a meeting in Jackson Miss. and had a great impact on the black community.

The wonderful people of that church accepted the black folks with open arms and welcomed them.

A black bishop from GHQ came in a few months later and took them out of that church and organized a black congregation with them......

See it all has to do with .........

I think the point is still missed and it is not that he "drank the kool aid" it is that people are now more accepting and how good it felt. I have not drank the kool aid and dont like Obama's policies yet I clearly understood what he met.
As I said it was not that he agreed with Obama but the fact that America had come so far that not only are they not being killed, Hanged, not allowed to drink from the same fountain etc. Now there is a Black president. Whether I like him or not, I can see how that would be a great feeling.
If you were a part of the civil rights movement etc. then you should know what he was saying. Man it was a really good story, I had a feeling it would spur anti obama topics, that really was not the point.

what do you mean and I will try to help... We passed another church within his denomination and I asked was this one that they went to as well, they go to a different church every sunday, except the 4th sunday they are at their church and others go there. When we passed that church he was telling me No that they did not go there it was the white church, in other words they still have segregated services.

Hope that helps

I WAS a part.....if you think I was not being honest....and I know what the agenda was.

It certainly was not to "dumb down" or to "Liberalize" the ideals of the movement. Again King would be aghast of this. His belief was that it (electing a president .black president...) could be done without compromise.

They compromised the whole ideology of family values for a postition....it would never have flown with King.

   Dr Ron I am sorry you took it that way I never doubted that you were a part of the civil rights movement etc. I was simply stating if you were you could understand how this man feels. Again if you cant see that we then will agree to disagree. I can easily see that If I was one that was not allowed to use the same toilet, water fountain and could not walk anywhere with out being called a nasty name etc... I would be excited that AMerica has allowed a Black man to be president.

BTW I dont think he compromised at all, Obama never thought abortion was wrong, he is just being consistent. The democratic party has always accepted abortion and yet the Black community votes for them. Surely we dont think they are unaware of this? They are not a group of people that are clueless they have supported the democratic party for a LONG time. So they have not compromised at all, this is consistent with their views I suppose.

Ok, that is what I understood that within he's own denomination they still are segreated in 2009 even with a mixed President in office. They segreate themselves. I do undertand that some my feel better in their own color church white or black, but I have to say some of the best services I've been apart of has been in a mixed service.

He wasn't saying he would not visit but nor was he complaining about that at all it is just what started our conversation about his life etc.

As far as their church goes they go to 4 churches, the ministers, members etc. go to different services every week. When I asked him about that church then he mentioned that it was the white church, I think his hesitation was he did not want it to come out wrong and me be offended etc..

I don't begrudge any blacks for voting for a black man. JFK gained a great majority of the Catholic vote.

If we as Christians were a minority, and we were finally given an opportunity to vote for a Christian. I think that we would be happy to do so, regardless of the candidate's denomination.

I won't say it's right or wrong, but I can understand the pride and emotion that many -- most -- blacks felt due to the recent election and inauguration.

I would definitely vote for a person of any color, if I agreed for his position. Yet, I suppose that, a special occurrence will arise in which I would vote for someone of a particular ilk that would be out of character with my normal voting record. (I can't tell you today a possible scenario, but I would allow for a possible scenario to exist).

Just another change that has happened since Obama in a small suburb of chatt. TN

I was counseling a 14 year teenage girl and we were talking about race relations. She comes from a family with a history of racism. She made a comment about how "the blacks (at her school) were doing so much better) When asked what she meant she responded. "use to when they would get in trouble the would yell its because I'm black. Since Obama became president you really dont hear that anymore"

One small change for the good that Obama did bring. He help rip a large hole in the race card.

I am not missing your point at all.

I am just trying to enlarge on the falacie of the whole idea.

The old gentleman sees what he sees......but he doesn't see the price for it.

Nor would he have considered this president an 'African American" a few year back......he has a white momma......

Just sayin......

I am sure it was a pleasant experience for you.
