Will Smith

Postby Full Quiver » November 8th, 2008, 10:40 am

Will was on Oprah and I caught a recording of it (don't ask). She asked him how people with "means" (big money) to support their families balanced how they gave their children things and such. He jokingly replied by saying they don't give their kids anything. He said they have to work for the things they want. They taught their children that families, groups, cities, societies, civilization as a whole must work together for the good of the group. If one person or a group of people within the collected group or society becomes a drain, is not helping to grow the group, etc. then they are a burden and become outcast.

I totally agree and was shocked to hear him say this especially to Oprah's face. I wish I had the transcript or video for your pleasure.

I am not a racist so let's not go there.

I was surprised that he had the fortitude to say it to her face on her show. I did not know he felt so strongly but am not surprised since he has worked hard and knows that the white man has not kept him down.

Brother you seem to be so smart...why would you say such a comment to Full Quiver? His comment was simple to understand.
It is VERY SHOCKING that will smith (one noted as the most sought out actor in Hollywood) would say such a good comment on the ultimate Liberal all powerful Oprah show...not to mention say it to her face in front of the whole world.

It was a question. I read it as an honest question that did necessarily presume a specific answer. Besides, I think there is a tendency for conservatives to associate black liberals with a welfare mentality. So it's fair to ask the question.

presume

Presume or assume?

I assume that liberals always consider conservatives to be racist. :D

I'm not sure how a question can be a cheap shot...but, look. I've seen at least one comment on this forum that seemed, to me at least, to embody what Tim said: that "there is a tendency for conservatives to associate black liberals with a welfare mentality"
Mike Vande wrote:Uneducated blacks living on welfare in the inner city...couldn't care less who's in charge as long as they keep getting their bi-weekly check...[Obama] can't favor blacks over any other ethnic group in this country, and that's gonna tick them off.

You can read it here: http://www.jude2.com/viewtopic.php?p=228744#228744

When I read your post, it raised the question in my mind of whether you would have been shocked if a white person -- say, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, Tim Robbins, or Bruce Willis -- had made the same statement and if you would have considered it as noteworthy.

I'm not accusing you of racism, full quiver. If your purpose for posting that was to say, hey, here's a guy who is a member of an opressed minority group who "gets it," well sir, I agree with you. But rest assured, my friend, I meant no offense. If you took it that way, I apologize and humbly ask for your forgiveness.

Be forgiven my child :P :!:

I would have been shocked had most any white men said it since it was to Oprah and her audience though it needed to be said but especially by Cruise or Robbins.

No, the purpose of my thread was not to say

because I do not believe the black community is oppressed. One could say the purpose of my thread was to say here's a guy that gets it, who is a member of a group who usually doesn't get it, and he told it to the queen of said group.

Were it an unloaded question, it could have been put in a much more polite, much less challenging manner. Also, it has been made plain over and over again that liberals arrogantly associate conservatism with racism, and derive self-righteous satisfaction from doing so. I doubt many so-called "liberals" would continue associating themselves with others of that ilk if they were deprived of that satisfaction.

And as far as Will Smith making such statements on as hallowed a bastion of liberalism as the Oprah show, and it front of the official high priestess of that particular pagan temple, he can get away with saying such things due to HER racism. He can say it because he's because he's black. If any white actor, or politician, or social worker were to say anything of that sort about black people, it would have been edited out of the show before it was aired, especially if she hadn't been able to refute him.

And by the way, I'm assuming that when you wrote "I read it as an honest question that did necessarily presume a specific answer", it was a typo and that you intended to say "didn't" instead of "did", but you can correct me if I'm wrong.

Mike,

I can assure you that N.T. Wright Fan is no liberal. Compassionate Christian - absolutely, but certainly no liberal.

I'm not smart enough to figure out when it's okay to mention color and when it's not. N. T. Wright Fan asked whether color was implied in a statement, and it was a low blow. You clarify the original statement in terms of color, and it's okay. Gary says it's okay to acknowledge color, and Ron says it's racism. Ron associates the color black with racism, but not white. I am cornfused!

Plain and simple, it could have been asked "Why does it surprise you?" The color part could have been left off.

It seemed implied that FQ might have a view point different if it were a different color. That's pretty cheap, especially if you don't know someone.

Thanks for the link NT Fan, but what did it have to do with FQ?
