Historical Pictures of COGOP/COG

Postby dbserv » September 25th, 2008, 9:05 am

Here is a link to another board where folks are posting pictures of COGOP/COG memories gone by.

http://tcogtalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=294

They brought back a lot of memories for me, a smile to my face when I saw how folks looked back then (Hey Momma Sophie, Steve G., etc - 1972 IYC Pic), etc. I wasn't at the 72 IYC, (73 was my year), but many of my TC friends and others I knew were. So, that picture brought back a lot of memories for me. Check out Darrel Talbot's pants in the front row.

Please DON'T use this thread to go off on TCOG, or the board I linked, etc. Just enjoy the pictures, comment on them, etc.

Thanks.
God Bless You

Dan Bagley

Really interesting

Postby Pastor Gary » September 25th, 2008, 10:15 am

I appreciate the link to the historical photos. I recognized a lot of faces in those.

This is NOT a criticism, merely an observation: I found it fascinating that those photos were posted on that forum, because those who frequent that forum would tend to see the days gone by as the "glory days" of our common heritage. I remember the past, but seldom wax nostalgic abut it, because I see today and the days to come as the best days of our movement.

Just an observation. But I enjoyed that little stroll down memory lane.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

It is not stating or us thinking they were our "glory days" but merely a time in history we all cherish , that is all. Our best days are just ahead:D
We simply enjoy our history as well as our future.
Glad you enjoyed them.
I told Shellie about it because Cathy Creasy is in the 1972 picture and I was not aware how all the creasy family were related. :D

I recognized one or two people that I knew personally and have been in their homes.

But "glory days"?

Some of those pics looked very scary.

I don't want to debate you on this one... but I stand by my statement, and offer as evidence that most of the xCOGx splits have started with the reversal of any/all changes (not just doctrinal) and a re-adoption of names and traditions of Tomlinson-era days gone by... VLB, WMB, CPMA, etc., and I contend that it is largely nostalgia for a romanticized memory of "the good ole days" when "The Church was still The CHURCH!"

PG you are making an assumption alone here. Sticking with what we believe to be true is totally different then thinking those are our best days etc.
Next staying with programs that were adopted and stay with them means nothing in this.

The seventies were not all that glorious.

Hey, my father in law (Dave Cabales) is there in a BTI pic on page 5. Finally I recognize someone!

In the last photo, the person next to Kinser was Harry Lee Moore. Former VLB Sect, Church Pilot, WW Editor, VOS, and any thing else that needed a great mind to rescue it. IMHO
You cannot effectively love and minister to others when you are obsessed with protecting
and preserving yourself.
