Graceland

Postby Paully_44 » April 9th, 2008, 6:15 am

Anyone here been to Graceland? I am a big Elvis fan and would to take the drive to Memphis when we come back for the GA. I know it is Elvis week there that week and it will be crazy, but that may add to the fun also.
Let the wild rumpus start!

Worth the trip (once anyway)... The have a pretty cool car museum there....all in all pretty neat place... It will definitely be extremely crowded during that week... But if you go there, you just have to go to the birthplace (where I live... :D ) It is always pretty crowded around here at that time....

I haven't been, but my wife did. She said it isn't as big as she thought it would be, but it is still a very impressive place just to see E's style and taste, and to see what was considered very opulent in the 1960's and 1970's.

If you are an Elvis fan you will enjoy it. I did. It is smaller than you would think, but they have lots of cool memorabilia. I also enjoyed the tour of his private airplane. Go eat some good BBQ while you're in Memphis too. They have some of the best.

As a Memphian, trust me when I say this - - GET ANY RESERVATIONS AND TICKETS YOU NEED NOW!!!!!

Elvis Week is so nutty I TRY to find any excuse I can to be sent to the Las Vegas offices for the week. It is literally freaky to be in a restaurant and spot 15 to 20 "Elivi" from children to people unintentionally posing as the old Elvis minus the white jumpsuit.

Graceland is great the first time or two, but the museum is even better to me. While you're in town, you will want to go downtown and walk Beale and see if the Baseball Park gates are open. If they are, you can walk in and take a tour.

Eat at BB Kings if you can, or the Rendezvous and shop at A. Schwab on Beale, an awesome "General Store" you can still buy shirts, jeans, and overalls from at a moderate to high price ;)

If you take a day or two and visit places like Mud Island , The Pink Palace Science Museum, or the Civil Rights Museum, Memphis can be a very fun place. Just stay away from streets named after states or colors and be out of downtown or in your room by 10:30 or 11pm and you'll be OK.
