Perhaps I should have stated the question thus:
"In the photograph is a cylindrical container, manufactured from glass (a hard, brittle, noncrystalline, more or less transparent substance produced by fusion, usually consisting of mutually dissolved silica and silicates that also contain soda and lime, as in the ordinary variety used for windows and bottles), that contains a volume of water (a transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid, a compound of hydrogen and oxygen, H2O, freezing at 32°F or 0°C and boiling at 212°F or 100°C, that in a more or less impure state constitutes rain, oceans, lakes, rivers, etc.: it contains 11.188 percent hydrogen and 88.812 percent oxygen, by weight) that comprises 50% of the potential volume of said container. Given these facts, and these facts only, is the glass half full or half empty?"
Yes I know that polls are not scientific, they can however give a good overview of how a particular group views a subject. The question of the glass is a classical one, that is deliberately kept simple.
