Why did you leave?

Postby Kenya » May 26th, 2005, 12:56 am

I know there are many ex-cogopers on this board. Just curious to the statistics in our little world here. If I forgot an major option, let me know.....

My family left because of doctrinal disagreement.

The best answer for us was frustrated/slow change. The truth is that we got a little too big for our britches in the process, though.

ditto.... I don't really see a category for this.

I can't say I'm impatient with the pace of change, because it doesn't look like they are even going to be in a place I can agree with them when they get "there", wherever "there" is...

Looks to me like it will still be something I can't sit with.

We were tired of banging against a brick wall. Though they said they were interest in winning others to Christ, their actions said something different. Their action said they were more interested in protecting their "club". At one church, we felt we couldn't invite visitors for fear of what would be said to them. They were too concerned about cleaning them up before bringing them to Christ. We struggled with this our whole marriage. I remember talking with my mom about it, she tried to get us to go somewhere else. Jeffery was struggling with the "Bride" of Christ mentality. Not wanting to leave the fold. I prayed many prayers for release. We grew tired of doing all the "jobs" at church just so they could have "church". We just wanted to be somewhere that they were interested in bring people to Christ.

I left because I walked into a church of a different denom and God simply spoke to me saying "This is where i want you". I cried all of that day, not knowing what was ahead. My heritage, my ministry, my license and my heart belonged in the CoGoP, but I could not disobey the voice of God.

Until that day I saw myself as CoGoP minister and was not looking to change. I was somewhat frustrated with the slow moving changes but that was NOT why I left. I left because God told me to leave.

My ministry changed dramatically. I lost some friends. I am not now licensed in any organization, but I know I did the right thing!

Why pick on COGOP???? Why not have a poll that says "Why did you leave COG or AOG?" I have been a member of both COGOP and COG.
We had to leave the COGOP at the time because we had a pastor that was destroying the church with his "money hungry" ways. Plus a few other things he was doing that is against any demonational priniciples. It was leave or backslide at the time. Tho it was possible for us to attend another COGOP in the district. God wanted to heal us at a COG. We got very involved in the COG. Then after the healing of our spirits 2 years later, God lead us back to COGOP where we had left. Church was dead after all that had went on before and after we left. Teenagers had nothing, no childrens church for the kids, now the church is blossoming again. Not because of what we are doing but also because God blessed us with a wonderful Pastor with a heart for the people. He is letting God use him to heal hearts.
People come and go in all kinds of churches for a variety of reasons. There is a bigger picture here its not about denominations. It's about bringing the lost to Christ!!!

Because it's the chubby little redhead with freckles, braces, frizzy hair and body odor and we're spiritually immature and it's JUST SO EASY TO DO!!!!

Because 'cogop' is the common thread, in one form or another, that brings most participants to this board. If that isn't accurate by numbers, I'm certain it's the belief held by most.

It's kind of like why I wouldn't go to McDonald's and try to order Nachos Bell Grande.

Get it?

I was cogop when I lived in Georgia. When we moved to West Virginia there was 2 cogop I could go to but I didnt feel the love there I felt in the church in Georgia. I started going to Church of God and felt the love there. I feel I am where God wants me now. In cogop I felt like I wasnt doing as much for the Lord as I needed to. Where I am now I working with missions and on the mission team. Already been on one mission trip and planning another soon in a few months. I do feel it is not the name over the door of a church, it is where God is and sends you. As long as the Lord is there I am happy. Who knows one day I might be lead back to Cogop but for now I am where God wants me. I still praying that cogop and Cog come together in unity.

Because I am a member and attender of COGOP and I am interested in the statistical answers to my question. Curiosity. No other reason.

Why not have a poll that says "Why did you leave COG or AOG?" I have been a member of both COGOP and COG.

Feel free to start one.

I couldn't agree with you more. It was a simple question - not trying to solve the world's problems. Don't read more into it than that.

I had about the same experience coming TO the CoGoP. I voted "other" because I haven't left, but wanted to see the results, because if we are ever going to get things right, it's good to know the biggest problems.

There is a link at the bottom of the poll to view the results, without skewing them. :)
