Emerge Youth Conf.

Postby scooter » March 28th, 2011, 1:20 am

Just wanted to say we just got back from the church's youth conference in Orlando and it was top notch.

Our youth and youth workers were ministered to.

One said Friday night was the best service he had ever been in.

It looked like there were about 900-1000 strong.

Got to see some fellow Jude2ers.

Palm Harbor took the Volley Ball Championship!
What we need here is a good revival! lol

Great, but...

Postby darylscook » March 29th, 2011, 9:37 am

I want to say that what I was able to view was GREAT! Friday night was Awesome! Thankfully I didn't miss it. I almost did.

Maybe I am the only one but I was so offended at some saying "Oh My God!" and "God" and "My God" so often that I almost turned it off. I encouraged her, and my daughter was able to go but we have taught her that using God's name vainly like that is "Using God's name in vain" and is sinful. Then hearing it like that. I was really frustrated. Am I crazy? (only answer that about this situation not in general)

No, you are not the only one. I cringed every time I heard it. I try to find a happy place between cringing and thinking I'm too stuffy, lol.

Help me to get to that point. I know I can be old school. But, I have taught my daughter that "Oh my God" is worse than some "cuss" words because it is actually using God's name in vain. I would rather hear someone say, "s--- (poop)" or Female dog than to use God's name so flippantly when it is clear you are not praying or talking to him. i'd rather neither, but if I had to choose. We have taught her to be graceful and assume that on facebook, people may be meaning Gosh or Goodness when they say "OMG".

Help me overlook it too!

Send him an email. Maybe he doesn't realize how it sounded. I thought it was just me.

I agree Daryl, I actually brought it up in church here when I got here because I heard it so much from our youth. We need to recognize these things more.

Daryls/Shelly- ur not over reacting. As far as I am concerned, it is blasphemy to use God's name in vain. I'm not judging Chucky Chandler or anyone else's heart, but we have taught our children (just like you Daryl) that it is worse to use God's name like that than to blurt out some cuss word (we don't encourage that either).

The ten commandments are the ten commandments- they are the basis for morality that transcend culture and time. When we disregard them as a society, we are sowing the wind and someday will reap the whirlwind.

I would assume, like Shellie, that Chucky probably just hasn't thought the issue through and woudl respond positively to some feedback from a COGOP minister.

Send him an email :)

When people say that it really bugs me.

My (less than perfect) Kids say that at times, and I have to get on to them.

The illusionist was awesome! I wished he had more time to share his message behind his illustration.
