Bad laptops

Postby beckrl » November 6th, 2009, 4:56 pm

Hey guys, I have been repairing alot of laptops here of late.
Most are Hp or Compaq and some Toshiba's. The Hp model is dv9000 series and Compaq 2100 series. Both of these series I had to replace the LCD screens. The problem is that Hp knows all about these problems.

The hp dv9000 series I replaced the motherboard due to an overheated graphic card failure along with the inverter.

They call it Limited Warranty Service Enhancement.

Actually the Hp dv9317cl laptop is a very poor design, it has alot of small daughter boards that can go bad along side the motherboard. Not along the heat problem which they have a bios update to run the fan at an different rate. It can get very expensive to repair.

Thought you would like to know.

Dell, Is better, the only things I can recall having to repair is come hard drives and keyboards. That's not an expensive repair.

I guess this Hp laptop got to me  If it was mind I would throw it in the trash can.

I have had one HP and it was a desktop. Worst computer I have ever owned. Of course it is very old now. But I don't want another HP

I used to sell computers. I've only found 1 brand that is terrible across the board, and that's Emachines. I also refused to sell Lexmark printers because they were terrible for breaking down, and they had the highest ink costs at the time.

I've had people hate HP and I've had others swear on them.. Same with all the other brands. I'm convinced that no one brand is better than the other.. It's just hit or miss. I'm in favor of laptop warranties too. They pay for themselves if you ever have to fix the screen.

buy used...brand don't matter...download the manual...buy a small set of screwdrivers and repair with used parts if needed...if you can't figure it out...sell it for parts and buy another used one...

thats my philosophy...save lots of money too...I never pay more than $300 for a used laptop and normally get a couple of years out of it before I scrap it or give it to the kids :)

My wife just got a G60...pretty thing too.

Runs like a racehorse.
I want to die like Grandpa, quietly and in his sleep; not like the passengers in his car, they were all panicking and screaming.
