The Virgin Mary Stump

[Gerald Creasy]

NEARLY 2,000 people have signed a petition seeking to prevent the removal of a tree stump on the grounds of a Co Limerick church, which they believe depicts an image of the Blessed Virgin

The local priest seems to have a little sense:

Local parish priest Fr Willie Russell said on radio station Limerick Live 95FM yesterday that people should not worship the tree. “There’s nothing there . . . it’s just a tree . . . you can’t worship a tree.”

Gerald, your post brought to mind these verses in Isaiah...
where people cut down a tree, used part to cook and bake with, then worshipped the rest of the tree.

Isaiah 44:19, 20 And none considereth in his heart , neither [is there] knowledge nor understanding to say , I have burned part of it in the fire yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh , and eaten [it]: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination shall I fall down to the stock of a tree.

He feedeth on ashes : a deceived heart hath turned him aside ,
