Being poor=being in debt

Teaching people to become better stewards is always the right thing to do. Teaching them how to become debt free stewards is even better. Making both a reality for everyone is sadly just not possible. The poor will always be with us.

The above quote taken from the tithing thread, seems to imply that being poor means that you are in debt. That it is impossible to be poor without being in debt.

To me, and maybe I am wrong, this is totally incorrect. To be poor means that one does not have much, as our society may see it, and by no means signifies that one is drowning in debt. I would doubtlessly say that many poor people are more debt free and better stewards of their money than perhaps many on us that frequent, or in my case lurk, on these boards.

the poorest man in the world owes 25 million dollars with no ownership in anything. but i agree with you. being poor does not have anything to do with being a poor steward. matter of fact many people that are on a very fixed income that are poor pay their tithes and have what they need.

I agree with you, I am currently debt free, but am on a very tight budget right now, I wouldn't consider myself rich by any means, but God meets my needs.

Exactly the point I was stressing in the other thread. Teaching people to be better stewards can work for those that have means to do so. However, the sad fact is that there are people who have nothing, and who have no debt. All the teaching in the world won't change that.
