How Evil Finds a Home
We all face the threat of evil…from without and within. Others might use threats. The loss of a job or a promotion is often enough to do the trick. But the ultimate tool in the arsenal of evil is the threat of violence and death. In using such threats, others act as a conduit for evil as it seeks a nesting place to multiply. But evil is subtle. It also seeks to rise up from within each of our own hearts. It whispers a thought from within ones own mind “I am God. How dare they.” Evil tempts and lures one into taking up the tools of its own arsenal. Evil thus gains power and perpetuates itself. It finds a home.
Truth is the antidote. It is the only effective means of defeating evil. Truth wields explosive power, resurrection power – the power to overcome death and give life. It rides into Jerusalem, unafraid of death and confronts the powers that be. It names them and it shames them. Truth bears within its arsenal the power of a love so strong it is willing to offer the blood that flows through its veins to give life to its friends. Truth dies on a cross in victory allowing the powers of evil to exhaust themselves and lighting the way for others to follow. It shouts from the mountaintop “This is the way!!!”
We each have a choice. We choose to be conduits of evil or conduits of love. We can pick up the tools of evil or we can wield the power of love. We can speak the truth in love, confronting the powers of evil, naming and shaming them. In the process, we defeat the powers of evil and death. We can, as someone put it “Take up your cross and follow me.” We may die for speaking the truth. But we will find new life bursting forth on the other side.
So take your pick. Employ the tools found in the arsenal of evil and you will perpetuate its power. Or speak the truth in love in an act of self-sacrifice, and give life.
Your move.
