Did it ever occur to anyone?

Postby EagerBeaver » October 7th, 2009, 11:52 pm

Something dawned on me just the other day as if a light bulb was turned on inside my head.

Shouldn't we all simply pray for the conviction of the Holy Spirit to fall upon our elected leaders and for them to receive Christ's salvation? Then everything from then on would fall into place because the most important thing would already be accomplished.

It's the 2 Chronicles 7:14 principle in action, led by none other than our secular leadership.

It's high time the church wields the power of prayer, which is much greater than the power of the ballot. Only those over 18 can vote, but ANYONE can pray and we need to collectively do so.

I'd challenge anyone here, even though I'm younger than most on this board, to pray for the salvation of the politicians rather than simply speak out against them and their policies. Trying to change someone's mind on a message board won't accomplish a thing, but uniting in prayer for the souls of those who lead us will get something done.

I'm not trying to say we aren't praying for them already, but let's at least make it more public that we are doing so.

Good call Chris! This is something I need to do more and when I do I will make mention of it to help encourage our brothers and sisters here to continue to do it. Thanks man.

I think it is a great idea and a commandment to be obeyed to pray "for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty."

We do need to make note, however, that even if every person in America were truly Christian, the order of our world would be no different than it is today. The kingdom of God supplants, not complements, the kingdoms of this world. The U.S. government and all lesser governments within the nation is dead on arrival. It can be neither the seed nor the soil for the eternal kingdom. To the extent we rely on it or organize our lives around it, we are putting value into a graven image crafted by and designed by humans and one that can only and finally ruin.
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).

I'm sure that would be the solution. Just look around at how well all the Christian denominations get along. I think world peace is just around the corner.

On a serious note, we truly need to hold our leaders up in prayer and ask God to direct them (and us).

After praying earnestly.

What if God sent a old outcast like Moses whom couldn't speak well to confront a powerful Pharaoh like figure?

What if God sent a young David to fight a modern Goliath?

Would we support the person sent to defend us?
Would we recognize them if we saw them?
Or would our family tradition, politics, religion cause us to reject?

Maybe. Maybe not. When I was on campus at Fuller this summer there were more Obama bumper stickers than I had ever seen in one place. In a school full of passionate believers, well-educated and not naive, a few of us were lone voices of conservative thought. Christians, even sincere, devout ones, do not agree with which set of political imperatives are of prime importance.

Some see abortion and gay marriage as the hill they must die upon, while others see caring for the poor and removing vestiges of social injustice as a higher calling.

Pray, and pray fervently for Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and for Huckabee, Palin and Jindall... for both sides of the aisle and for independents, but don't expect faith in Christ to eliminate political differences.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

WOW good post I wonder how many christians pray for God to lead Obama and to protect him. I would have to assume many would rather seem harm rather then good....sad

 That statement is absolutely obnoxious and irresponsible. No right thinking individual ( especially Christian or otherwise ) would want any harm to come to the President of the United States.

You are projecting your own thoughts. SAD. :?

No it is not. There are MANY that claim to be christians that are blogging , protesting and spewing out absolute hatefullness bout the president.

I am not talking about people like you and I that disagree with him and debate I am talking about a whole different group of people. Sadly enough I have even heard a elderly woman person (that is a christian, or claims to be) say something to the effect "someone is going to kill him and it would not bother me"
Now harm is not always a physical thing Mac. So there is a whole other side to that as well.
If you have not seem some post and heard what some have said regarding him then I respect your post but do not ASSUME that it is not being said, because it is.
NOW a huge population do talk more negatively about him and will slam everything he does just as they did bush. Nut jobs are out there, many of them are making us all look really bad.

In your above statement using context in which it was aimed at... you are including ALL CHRISTIANS... and didn't make any disclaimer ( like your second post).

Again you are quoting personal antidotal information and when combined with a broad contextual statement that you made.. accuses all.

Example: My kids need to be loving & thankful for the great mother they have. But from [ isolated personal event witnessed] I would have to assume they are not. ( The second sentence is referring DIRECTLY to all the kids )

THAT statement is what I disagreed with and call outlandish and irresponsible. It slights your fellow brothers and sisters and give ammunition to the poor brainwashed souls whom listen, post here and watch from abroad.

I'm not getting into the debate, here, just pointing out that "many" Christians is an ambiguous number that may or may not include the majority and in common usage implies some but not all. The difference between "many" and "every" can be significant.

Is Obama really the root problem or is he only a symptom?
