Bad news first :
She's spiked a fever again. They are going to do some testing to try and find the culprit. They are also doing some testing to check for immune deficiencies. Lola has had thrush, a cold, pink eye, pneumonia, and MRSA, all in the last 14 days.

Good news:
She's breathing better so we are attempting weening again off the ventilator. They are cutting off her paralytic and cutting down the albuterol. Pray she tolerates it all well.

Update Saturday 1/17/15 AM:

Lola had a few minor set backs over night, but she is back on track.

They are beginning to slowly ween her off the sedation meds. They are addictive and must do it slowly for the body. They are switching her to some oral pain relievers and sedatives at the same time.
As long as she continues at this pace. She should be off the ventilator by mid week.

We are still waiting on cultures and test results to come back on the fever situation, but they started her on a second antibiotic as a precaution.

They have put noise canceling headphones on her to keep her calm. Her new 2 year old roommate doesn't seem to know what shhhhh, sleeping baby means, lol.

Continuing to pray for Lola. I check this nearly daily now. Wanted you to know.

Update Sunday 1/18/15:

She didn't do as well as wanted last night. They had to come back up on sedation, but not the ventilator. It was under consideration to take her off the vent today but that's been nixed. Possibly Tuesday now.
Her cultures that were taken after she spiked a fever, the 24 hour check showed a bacteria growth. It will take another 48 to figure out what Bacteria it is. However, her white blood cell count is down, meaning the antibiotics are working on whatever it is.

They also had to put her on an antipsychotic. Sometimes long periods of heavy sedation can cause delirium. After reading some of her body language when she's awake they think she may be suffering from that.

Today's plan, continue sedation weening, just a little slower and wait some more!

They did the test run with the ventilator. She did good. Waiting for rounds to determine type of excavation and chest X-ray to make sure her lungs not collapsing!

She's off! She's doing great! It wore her out, but she's not sedated anymore and only on Tylenol for pain!

Lola's on the mend! She's still got a long road, but we are on the backside of the mountain!
She will start bottle feeding soon and get her chest tube out.

Continued prayers are needed. We still won't have the report about her immune system until Friday or next week.

Lola is struggling with the withdrawals of her meds and eating with a bottle. We are minutes from being out of PICU if they can get her off some of her IV meds. Please pray for her strength and comfort.

Thank You all for praying for this little girl.

Penny - I've been following this on Facebook, also. That little girl must be destined for greatness, because the devil has tried so hard to kill her. God is greater!
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

Lola is still struggling with the withdrawals and bottle feeding. She has the sweats, diarrhea, and is constantly agitated. She has forgotten how to stink, so she doesn't understand the bottle anymore. She is working with a speech therapist to try and getting her sucking worked out. Keep her in your prayers.

Pastor Gary I thought the same thing the other day.

Look who's off the oxygen! She has come down on the meds that are keeping her in the PICU too! Still working with the speech therapist to help her sucking issue. We are on our way out of ICU!

Friday

Mommy Audrey and Ya-Ya Buffy were excitedly packing up Miss Lola's belonging to move to the step down floor room and out of ICU. Backpacks on and baby switched to a transport bed, Lola's heart rate raised to 207 bpm. The concerned nurse called the Drs in just to take a look. The concerned DRs requested a precautionary X-ray and then a CAT scan. Lola's lung has opened up again and is releasing air into her chest cavity, causing her lung to deflate and her heart to be shoved over. They immediately put her back on oxygen. Then surgically reinstalled the chest tube that drains the air (not the ventilator). If the chest tube does not work, she will have to have the lung surgically repaired or even removed. We were told that if it comes to surgery at this early stage, not giving the lung time to heal itself, it will likely be removed because it is so sick. We had prepared ourselves for possible surgery and partial removal of the lung in a few months, but we are now fearfully waiting to see what happens.

SUNDAY UPDATE
Chest X-ray is looking better. She's still in some pain from the chest tube so they gave her some morphine for pain. She then had an allergic reaction, so they gave her Benadryl. Still has a small air leak, so the chest tube stays in for another 24 hours and checked again.
Lola continues to have sucking problems and withdrawals.
