Slow Cooker Cola Barbecued Ribs

3 1/2 lbs pork spareribs
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon hickory smoked salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup cola
1 1/4 cups of your choice of barbecue sauce

Spray a 4 - 5 quart slow cooker with cooking spray
In a small bowl mix brown sugar, salt and pepper and then rub mixture into ribs. Cut ribs into 2 or 3 rib serving portions and place in cooker, por cola around the ribs. Cover and cook for 8 hours.

Remove ribs and drain liquid from cooker. Brush ribs with barbecue sauce and place back in cooker, por rest of sauce over ribs and cover. Cooke on low for 1 hour.

These are great and easy.

Can this be done without the Coke??

It sounds so good and makes me want to get some ribs for this weekend after I get paid.

The cola adds flavor and also acts as a tenderizer. In my opinion they will be ok but not as good without the cola.

TW, the reason I spelled "pour" por is because:
1) I live in Florida where it is hot most of the year so we shorten everything to conserve our energy.....
2) That is my form of speed writing....
or
3) I spelled it phonetically
but under no circumstances was that a mistake or typo

I had a hard time finding the hickory smoked salt so I used Morton Nature's Seasons Seasoning Blend for 1 batch and then I found the smoked salt at a Winn Dixie (not all of them carry this) and made another batch and the difference was really slight especially if you use a hickory smoked barbecue sauce.

I've got my slow cooker on today (praying that the power
doesn't go out because of all the ice & snow!)

I couldn't find the hickory salt in the local grocery - so
had to subsitute. I found some steak salt? Hope it
turns out OK - sounded too good to pass up.

These were awesome. Only problem I had was that they
fell apart when I tried to brush the sauce on them?
The flavor was wonderful!

Do I need to cut back on the cooking time?

I would try cutting back on the time, I would try maybe an hour less in the slow cooker. I'm glad you enjoyed them, I'm not a big meat eater but I really like these.

Absolutely delicious!

I made these for dinner tonight and they were absolutely delicious! So tender and moist; falling off of the bone. I couldn't find the hickory smoked salt so I bought some stuff called "Stubbs BBQ Spice Rub". I plan on making these again and again. Thank You for the recipe RJC.
