Dragon Naturally Speaking

Postby PastorP » December 6th, 2012, 2:20 pm

My doctor recommended that I start using dictation software to reduce the amount of typing that I do. I have purchased Dragon Naturally Speaking V. 12. It works well, but being new to this type of software, I was just wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions to me concerning using it.

Seriously—

Postby Pastor Gary » December 11th, 2012, 11:36 pm

I use Dragon Dictate to write long academic papers and often my sermon manuscripts. I am a terribly inefficient 2 finger typist, and it helps... a LOT.

It learns as you use it more an more, and do NOT skip the training exercises: they help the software become accustomed to your accent, speech rhythm and context word usage. The error rate goes down as you use it often.

you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

what PG said. I used a much older version when I was writhing thesis papers for undergrad work and for my masters. Sometimes for sermon/teaching prep as well.

First Sermon This Week!

Postby PastorP » December 16th, 2012, 10:13 am

I used Dragon Naturally Speaking v.12 this week for the first time to write my sermon. I was surprised how accurate it was in recognizing my "southern dictation." Thanks for the advice PG. I will certainly do more of the excercises.
