Apple Kills the Textbook?

Postby MacUser » January 19th, 2012, 8:29 am

Wow.. big day for Apple.

Look this is huge in two ways.
1) It revolutionizes the textbook education industry and makes them interactive in such a way... only the FUTURE could describe. If you have an iPad download the new ibooks app.

2) With iBooks Author. Anybody with 10.7 can download the app and create a n ebook for free. It's killed another industry.

I've had experience in the epub production industry and this is going to change it. The publishers I have spoke with today are trying to come to grips this announcement.

Also direct from Steve Jobs..
[ Before Jobs died on Oct. 5, 2011, he told his biographer Walter Isaacson that he still had desires to transform the textbook market.

"[Jobs] believed it was an $8 billion a year industry ripe for digital destruction," Isaacson wrote. "He was also struck by the fact that many schools, for security reasons, don't have lockers, so kids have to lug a heavy backpack around. ]
