Aren't you the one who said you needed a 'preachy' preacher to keep you attentive during a sermon? Is it about content, or is it about delivery style?

dawgs10 wrote:...if we dont put on a huge show should we wonder what is going on in the church today?

Similar comment: the assembly has a well known speaker planned who you found to be lacking in his delivery style and you were concerned that he would not maintain your attention because he was teaching more than preaching. This man isn't going to put on a show for you, but you question now what's wrong with society when they don't want to sit in on your non-showy services midweek?

dawgs10 wrote:is it the churchs fault or is it luke warm Christians? should we have to top ourselves every single time or should we sometimes get together to sit at the feet of the Lord and if we dont put on a huge show should we wonder what is going on in the church today?

If a teacher teaches and gives an exam that every student scores below 50%, who is to blame? Is it the teacher's fault for improperly delivering the material or did the students not learn well enough?

If you manufacture a product that could save the world and you go bankrupt trying to sell it, was it your fault for not advertising well enough or was it the population's fault for not paying attention to your advertising?

never once during that discussion did i ever say God could not use either type of speaker. the issue is this. if your church leadership prayed and felt a need of a series of services with a speaker. they scheduled the speaker and announced it. would you change your schedule around to be there or would you choose to do you own thing no matter what you may miss. thats the bottom line.

I'll be honest with you, when you get home from work at 6:00/6:30 and your children need to be in bed before 8:00 and you want to have a family dinner together...not a lot of ways you're going to be able to draw me into going to church on a week night. Those nights are family time and meant for time together, family prayer, reading and resting for another day.

That is a ridiculous statement. You are blanketing everyone who does not see things the way you do, which in my opinion is narrow minded and shows no willingness to see things from another perspective.

my perspective is i teach my children that when my church is in service we are at church. we do live in a world that people will not give the church their time. that's a fact. its not pointed at anyone individually.

Just wonder if we are not westernizing the idea of revivals being a thing of the past.

Just returned from kano Nigeria. four nights of meetings with crows ranging from 40,000 first night to over 60,000 the last night. Daily seminars for pastors and leaders attendance being arong 2500 daily.

In this area the churfches meet almost daily. the services are generally referred to as Prayer Revival Services.....Youth Revival Explosions...etc

Our local church averages between 350-400 weekly. We regularly conduct three day meetings with special speakers. Sometimes evangelistic, sometimes prayer oriented, sometims prophetic meetings. These usuall on non sundays will average about 150+

and preserving yourself.

Since we already have 7 services on 6 separate nights each week, plus 3 on Sunday morning, we really don't have time to schedule more.

In addition to that, we have small groups that meet 7 days a week with times varying from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

So, if you want to be in "service", there is no reason you can't be. Monday is the only night that we don't have a scheduled service but, there are several small groups which meet that night.

And at what age do you stop "making" your kids go to church? Is it when they no longer live in your house, eat your beans and "depend" on you? Do you tell your kids that "I'm required to keep you in school therefore I'm required to keep you in church."? If so, that's a fine line to walk. :)

BTW

If we spend all our time in "service" how can we spend any time in SERVICE - to the Great Commission and to our primary purpose for being Christians - to bring others to Him?????

This is something that I posted not long ago on another forum.

My wife & I have been blessed to help put together some successful revivals in the past. Here's some hints.....

1) Have your worship team take a break. Ask other churches to each take a night and do worship. I know, they'll leave after worship! Explain to them that you need them to stay and do the altar service also.

2) If you have church X doing worship on Friday, ask church Y if they have anyone who could sing a special on Friday.

3) ask the Pastor from church Z, if he would mind taking up the offering on Friday.

stevenson I like it to, especially in the small church works. Its hard to ask someone to come to hold a revival and not be able to pay them enought to support their family. In one of our revivals I used our district pastors.

Just as things have changed since I was and before my time as a child I think that they ever changing now. More restriction monies, time (even though we have better transportation), and type work that is so demanding to many.

But when I was a child more walked to church then rode. Their was from day light till dark in most cases. I remember them telling about standing room only, and mighty manifestations of the power of the Holy Ghost.

I don't see how they did it but God blessed
God Bless

my kids love to go to church!!! have one of the best children ministries in the area. they would think bad of me if i didnt take them. but they know the rules, no sleep overs on sat. fridays are for that. wens, sun morning, and sun night are church!!!! and they love it. they are both saved and love God, and understand that church is important. we have prayed over them since the day they were born and are very proud.
