Tim KrekelThursday, June 25, 2009 – Tim Krekel, who played guitar with and wrote songs recorded by Patty Loveless and Martina McBride, and was a Nashville player, died Wednesday of cancer in Louisville, Ky. at 58.
Krekel twice served as lead guitarist with Jimmy Buffett, first in the mid-1970s on the "Son of a Son of a Sailor" album. He also had a solo career going with "Crazy Me" out in 1979 on Capricorn, which soon went broke. He started another band, the Sluggers, which had two albums. After the group split, he returned to Buffett's band.

He also played with Bo Diddley, Delbert McClinton, Pam Tillis, Sam Bush and Billy Swan.

The band's distinctive style, particularly Bogle's guitar leads, is credited as the inspiration for the unique "surf rock" sound. Speaking of 'Walk Don't Run' at last year's Rock Hall induction ceremony, Creedence Clearwater Revival's John Fogerty said, "That song started a whole new movement in rock 'n' roll.
