Encounter at a Louisville Stop Light (Comics related)

So I'm out headed to an Indian restauraunt today for some curried goat, chicken vindaloo and tandoori chicken when I pull up to a stop light in the fancy part of town.

I look over to my left and see an old 40s era Dodge in mint condition and I call my sons attention to the Old car.

As it pulls away I see the liscense plate: COMICS and I catch a glimpse of the man in his late fifties wearing a 1940s era Fedora.

It was Don Rosa.

Don Rosa is a multi-award winning artist for Disney illustrating Scrooge McDuck. He is not well known in the US but has scads of fan in europe (do a web search and you'll find tons of fan sites based in Europe)

Before he broke big with Disney he illustrated a serial comic in the local newspaper: Kentuckys own Superhero Captain Kentucky.

Captain Kentucky a send up of superheros with tons of in jokes and a wacky sense of humor.

He'd keep a running tally of the mileage of his old car in the white spaces between panels.

When I worked for the local paper (in delivery) I'd catch a glimpse of him in the SCENE office occasionally and nod to him. Unfortunately I never met him.

You can find out more about him and some examples of his artwork at the following links:
